Mellow Man

The players play
The crooner croons
The dancers dance
The people swoon

Feel the beat
That mellow sound
The music moves
Its way around

Oh mellow man
What is thy song
What makes you sing so
All night long

Oh mellow man
Why do you cry
What’s in your heart
Why do you sigh

The world is full of
Men like me
Who often look
Yet seldom see

We look without
To find within
We’re saddened
Time and time again

We force our wills
Onto our land
Instead of accepting
What we can

We seek a change
Not in our ways
But in those with which
We share our days

Oh mellow man
How can that be
Why can’t your ways
You often see

I look to change
My evil ways
I long to spend more
Better days

I’m blinded by
My eyes that see
Only what
I want to be

It’s hard to shed
These scales for light
Somehow the dark
Has become my sight

The music plays
A brand new song
A strange tune
That’s played too long

Contorted tones
Un-rhythmic beats
The dancers swirl
The song repeats

Over and over again
The strange song is played
No note the same
No time delayed

Oh mellow man
What is this thing
That plays here
Over and time again

It is the sound
Of my contorted mind
No end no solution
Do I find

I am confused
Without a doubt
Don’t know how I came in
Can’t seem to find my way out
